Did some quick fotoshopping. What do you think? Is that the right direction to go?
More detail = more immersion?

I dont know, looks very abstract and trying to be realistic at the same time. I'd go for one of the other (abstract in my opinion). I think this would mean making objects not resemble real-world ones (like that graffiti on the wall)

If you want to do realistic however (which you probably dont want) then sharpen up those light sources and choose what exactly the area that you're exploring is.

That's just my idea of a really cool physics/puzzle flash game, going from this.
